The bad image of Ferdinand E. Marcos started when he declared the Martial Law on September 21, 1972. Although he wasn’t the first one and last one to declare, it was as if he was the only one who implemented it. Marcos caused a lot of pain and trauma in the minds and hearts of the Filipino people who experienced the Martial Law. He brought great damage in the Philippines that the people, especially the victims continue to suffer from. Nonetheless, Filipinos could not deny the fact that his administration was one of the best regime among all. Some people say that the Martial Law was the worse but it is truthful that this was the best.
In my opinion, of course, there is a positive and negative effect of Martial Law. Based on what I’ve heard and watched, a lot of people extremely suffered and there are also who thinks that Marcos implementing the Martial Law helped a lot in the Philippines. I am one of the people who thinks that Martial Law helped the Philippines. Why? People became more disciplined because they knew the consequences they would face when you do something unpleasant. Even though some Filipinos thought that having the Martial Law implemented would have a negative effect, Marcos still knew that it was the best thing to do for the Philippines. By having the Martial Law implemented, it changed the Philippines especially the Filipinos a lot.
Either positive or negative, he didn’t implemented that law for his own pleasure but for his people’s security and also for the next generation.
