HEARSAYS MOSTLY BELIEVED THAN TRUTH

Martial law is well hated by people but in my opinion martial law gave plenty of benefits for the people. In 1972, martial law was declared and that was all how it started. I wasn't born in that year but I could really see its effect until this year.
According to a website I have visited recently, in 1972, the Philippines was officially declared to be under Martial Law by the late president, Ferdinand E. Marcos. The establishment of this new law turned their democratic political system into a totalitarian system functioning similarly to the system used by The Party in George Orwells novel, 1984. Both governments’ propagandic efforts had allowed them to remain in power through the use of physical force, psychological manipulation of aphorisms, and media restraints. Marcos had issued Proclamation 1081 to prevent a social breakdown and collapse of the economy.
He instituted Martial Law and justified it as a necessary corrective to the lawlessness permeating the nation. Though the Party never justified their actions or doctrines, they still had complete control over their people. Curfews were so heavily enforced in the Philippines that anyone caught loitering would be thrown into prison, similar to how a midnight stroll was deemed suspicious and even a simple facial twitch could lead to an arrest in 1984. When the Philippine nation demanded a Kalayaan, a nation with economic equality that was free from foreign domination from their President, he punished the rebels and even put some of them to death.
When I was still a kid, back in my elementary days, I always hear my teachers talking about Martial Law. I heard from them that Martial Law is the period of evilness and anger. It was gloomy and scary as they’ve said. As far as I know, Martial Law is being implemented by a leader and agreed with the members of the government as a way to stop violence and bring forth peace in a country. Even if I were in Ferdinand Marcos’ shoes and situation I will still implement Martial Law in order to bring peace. Nowadays, it is much worse than his days, in fact compare to the crimes during his days and today, it is worse, totally worse. Crime rates are climbing harder it could be and obviously needed to be stopped. Innocent shouldn’t be dragged on this situation, they deserve better than this.
Though, I understand President Marcos why did he brought Martial Law up, he just wanted to stop violence and let innocent people and all of his people live in peace. I was asked if I want to experience Martial Law, yes, I want to. I didn’t do something that has violated the law, so why would I fear Martial Law? It is just people who makes things exaggerated, why don’t we look through things deeper. Whether it will cause us good or bad, that two will never be separated. It is likely to life, you will never be happy always yet you’ll also feel sorrow. Life isn’t about happiness but going through its flow and having all the emotion touches you.
People recognizes you on what mistake you had but never on what great things you’ve ever done. People will always remember your fault but never the things you did that helped and caused them good. That’s why only the bad side of Martial Law is the only thing they see. In fact, only few know what great things that Marcos has contributed on this country. That we were once rich and progressive. That the value of money is high as we. But look at us now, we are at risk of being the poorest country, crimes are worse than his days. Crab mentality it is though, they criticize Marcos because of Martial Law but never praised him what he did for us. The great contributes and attributes of him, somehow needs to be applauded and praised, also remembered. He made this country progressive once, but right after his regime ended no one made this country progressive like what he did. To be honest, as for me, the Presidents who sat next to him, failed. This aren’t hypocrisy, this is reality. It was them who destroyed what Marcos began to build for us, the future that this generation deserves to have. Hearsays mostly believed than true stories, yet, the question is---if both sides are being heard, how can we determine who’s telling the truth and not?
