I don’t know but still I am young and naïve when it comes with these things. I wasn’t born yet when Martial Law was implemented and declared, that makes me totally clueless of what really happened that time. But as I was searching about it I realized that there are advantages and disadvantages. I have relatives that experiences the Martial Law regime yet none of them were beaten, tortured nor experienced the dark side of Martial Law, as what hearsays said. But I found out many people who were falsely accused, they got killed and now they need and seek for justice. And I guess that’s the reason why people are still angry and can’t get over about it. But somehow, for me, I am battling with myself, in my opinion, if I want to experience it? I’m thinking there are a good thing about Martial Law as well as a bad thing too. With Martial Law, people are very well disciplined unlike today you can’t go anywhere without a crime issues and situations. And maybe the wrong thing about it is, that many people were killed without making sure or had a background research about the arrested and I believed that Marcoses still have to pay for the injuries they have done. I may be don’t want to experience the Martial Law because civilian population were controlled by military forces. And they tend to experience the suspension of habeas corpus which allows the government to detain anyone without cause, the loss of fundamental human rights, and drastic economic repercussions. When you do something illegal, the military can do whatever they see fit to you and I don’t want that to experience it. And I think some of the disadvantages of the Martial Law are: death of democracy, there’s no freedom of the rights of the people to speak and share their opinion in that current situation.

To have a briefly knowledge on Martial law, it is a law of enforcement formed by the government. It is defined as rule of military authorities, it is imposed on an occupied territory by occupying military forces. And I think the good thing of it is that law enforcement is nearby in case you have any type of emergency and it make some areas safer than they would normally be. I also discovered that Martial law helps in search in rescue operations, assures supplies to people affected by disaster, and coordinates plans. I may not be able to say all the good things about the Martial Law, but one thing I know is its effectiveness to maintain peace, discipline and order to the country but under the rule, under the Law it could be very dangerous also. And I think I agree that it could be beneficial to everyone because they can give you protection and can assure you safety just like the Mindanao currently experiencing right now. The President declared Martial Law there to help them and protect because of the terrorist attack. But still it doesn’t mean I want and I don’t want to experience it. For now, I am neutral about the Martial Law because Martial Law, sometimes, in a democracy country, it is necessary.
