I put up a photo on the wall

At my office at home, you

Know, where I do my job

And make sure I don’t look strange

I’m still wearing my green uniform

And colored breast plates, because

I know I’ve worked hard, I

Also brought a photo of my boss

I call him Apo, so Apo could

You know, hang around on the wall

Behind me and look over my shoulders

To make sure I’m disciplined and all

I snapped at my son once, I caught him

Lurking around my office at home

Looking at the stuff on my wall – handguns,

Plaques, a sword, medals, a rifle

I told him that it was no place for a boy

Only men, because it’s not time for him yet

To enter a world such as this, where

That photo of Apo on the wall was already

A symbol of fear for the people

His eyes following my child like he was

That scary jesus in the hallway, saying

I know what you’re doing
